Traveling for weddings is something I have always loved. Destination weddings create a special sense of intimacy and togetherness for the couple and their guests, since everyone has traveled for the specific purpose of celebrating. People tend to stay in the same hotels, bump into each other in town, and hang out throughout the weekend. The wedding experience is elongated, thus creating more space for folks to get to know one another and more time for the couple to visit with all their loved ones.
I also happen to adore Vermont, so when Jen and Roger asked me to travel to Manchester, Vermont to photograph their destination wedding at the Hildene Estate, I was excited. The whole weekend was abuzz with energy and fun. Roger’s mother, Merry, lovingly saw to every detail of the rehearsal dinner. Guests enjoyed lawn games, cocktails, and the rehearsal dinner at the Taconic Hotel.
The next day was initially rainy, with fog settled over the mountains, but it cleared just in time for the outdoor wedding ceremony at Hildene. Donna Kim, of the Perfect Details, coordinated the event beautifully, and I loved moving through the day with Jen and Roger, who’s love and adoration for one another was utterly charming to observe.
